South Florida Medical Research Team Announces New Clinical Trial

27 Sep, 2012 15:51 CET

South Florida Medical Research has announced the launch of a brand new low testosterone medical research study. The clinical trial is for men with low levels of testosterone and will take place at the South Florida Medical Research facility in Aventura, Fl.

Low testosterone is a common complaint and one that affects millions of men in the USA. As it becomes more prevalent with age, experts estimate that around 10 – 25% of men over 50 years old suffer from low testosterone levels. A 2006 study in The International Journal of Clinical Practice pegged the number at 13.8 million American men older than 45. While estimates vary, what is certain is that the demand for testosterone replacement treatments are at a record high, suggesting the problem is more widespread than would first appear. Some analysts forecast that sales of low-testosterone treatments will more than triple between now and 2017 to total some $5 billion, a sure sign that the effects of low-testosterone are not set to disappear anytime soon.

Although many men are reluctant to discuss low testosterone with their health practioner, the symptoms of the problem are serious and widespread. As the most important of the male sex hormones, low levels of testosterone can cause complaints such as a loss of libido, depression, a sense of lethargy, low energy levels, loss of muscle mass in legs and arms, irritability and mood swings.

Marc C. Gittelman, M.D., F.A.C.S., Executive Director, said, “Many factors are known to contribute to low testosterone levels including ageing, obesity, testicular injury, the use of performance enhancing drugs such as steroids, and pain medication. The great news is that it is a very treatable condition and one which can be controlled, usually allowing the patient to return to a ‘normal’ sense of well-being.”

With more than 20-years experience in clinical trials, South Florida Medical Research is one of the most trusted names in Florida medical research studies. It contributes to the understanding and development of new treatments for many health issues through its commitment to testing and investigation. The firm, led by board-certified urologist Marc C. Gittelman, M.D., F.A.C.S. is currently accepting volunteers for enrollment in the low testosterone clinical trial.

Study volunteers will benefit from expert medical care for their condition and will be educated about the medical conditions, along with their causes, symptoms and treatments. They will also enjoy the satisfaction that comes from knowing participation is helping the development of a new treatment that may benefit other sufferers.

As with all medical studies, volunteers must meet the criteria determined by the chief physician conducting the trial. Volunteers are welcome to ask questions and to exchange information freely with a South Florida Medical Research physician before participating in any study.
